R.I.P. God

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Surely now, this is it, once and for all. God is dead.

God never existed. God doesn’t exist. God as a concept is dead. There was no Adam and Eve, no Garden of Eden. The was no Noah’s Ark. God is dead – may the idea of Gods finally be laid to rest and let the world live in peace.

150 years after Darwin’s On the Origin of Species which described his theory of evolution by means of natural selection, Richard Dawkins provides unequivocal evidence for evolution as a fact.

No helicopter in the Bible

Friday, May 29th, 2009

My earliest memories of Jesus.. At primary school I remember singing in assembly about Jesus and the parties he had with his sofa. The words of the song were:

“Dance then wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the dance settee..”

Another memory which may have preceded the sofa dance was the image planted in my mind by the response from my father when asked the question, ‘Daddy, who’s Jesus?’.

“He’s like a doctor in the sky who makes people better”

Well, I had a vivid image of a low-flying helicopter (probably like something seen on Skippy) hovering over the green where we lived, with a very cool guy, half climbing out of one side in flared suit, tie, flowing c.1970 hairstyle and a briefcase which would contain his stethoscope. In fact, he probably looked like one of The Beatles in a TV detective’s suit. I still have that image in my mind now.

So, as far as I know, there was no helicopter in the Bible, and I realise I misheard the words to ‘Lord of the Dance‘.
